| MC Swimming Faces Stiff Competition |

MONMOUTH, Ill. – A three meet win streak ended for the Monmouth College swimmers last weekend as they faced Division I teams Valparaiso and Butler in Terre Haute, Ind. The Fighting Scots men fell 57-36 in the dual meet with Valpo. Monmouth’s women were clipped by Valpo 63-40 and lost to Butler 72-29 in the double dual competition. Gabe Baginski led the men’s squad, picking up a pair of individual wins and swimming a leg on a winning relay. The sophomore eclipsed his personal-best in the 1,000-yard freestyle where he swam a 10:21.03 to win by nearly a minute. He added another win in the 500 freestyle after clocking a 5:00.40. Baginski finished the meet by swimming the leadoff leg for the winning 200 freestyle relay team. Joe Testolin, Brett Dunn and Josh Dunn finished swam the final three legs as the squad turned in a 1:33.40 for the win over a pair of Valparaiso teams. Josh Dunn added the only other individual win. The senior’s 1:51.55 placed him first in the 200 freestyle by nearly three full seconds. He also placed third in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 58.31. Testolin recorded a pair of runner up finishes. He clocked a 24.06 for a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle. His time in the 100 backstroke of 1:01.13 was also good for second. A time of 1:06.22 earned Zach Heilman a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke. Brett Dunn’s 53.68 in the 100 freestyle placed him third, less than a second out of a runner up finish. Monmouth’s win picked up one individual win, but it wasn’t any of the usual swimmers. Rookie diver Abby McGuire took first in the one-meter diving competition with 165.35 points. Clarissa Henby was second with a score of 154.45. Krsyta Sparks had the swimmers’ top finish after recording a career-best time. Her time of 1:02.50 in the 100 butterfly was less than a half-second off the pace. Rachel Holm placed third in 1:06.22. Sparks also took third in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:12.66. Erica McAloon out-touched the competition for third in the 200 freestyle. In her first competition in two weeks, McAloon swam a 2:08.22 to place third by seven-tenths. A photo finish by the top five swimmers landed Erin Willhite in fourth-place at the conclusion of the 50 freestyle. The freshman touched in 26.53 as the top five were separated by just 65-hundredths. Willhite placed third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.47. It was a fourth-place finish by Kendra Kuehl in the 400 individual medley after turning in a 5:21.25. The Scots will get a rematch with Valparaiso this weekend. Monmouth will host their final regular season meet Saturday when Augustana and Western Illinois joins the Scots and Valpo at Monmouth’s Pepper Natatorium for a 1 p.m. start.
