MONMOUTH, Ill. – The Monmouth College men’s and women’s track teams set two school records as each placed second at last week’s Rose-Hulman Engineer Invitational. Competing at the largest meet to this point of the season, the Scots’ women finished a solid second in their nine-team field, nearly 30 points in front of the third place finisher and just 22 points out of first. The men were second in the field of 11 by a little more than 10 points. With just seven combined firsts, the Scots used their depth and a few outstanding performances to outscore all but one team on each side. Rachel Bowden picked up one of the women’s three wins. The junior tied her own school record in the 800-meters. She won the race in 2:18.70, equaling the mark she set a year ago and finishing nearly three seconds ahead of the runner up. The time also ranks her 16th in the nation. Allison Devor continued her dominance in the throws where she took top honors in the shot put and weight throw. Her shot put of 43’1-3/4” won by nearly a foot. Raven Robinson, Amanda Streeter and Kayla Corzine added a plethora of points, finishing 3-4-5 in the shot. Less than eight inches separated the three. Devor and Streeter placed 1-2 in the weight throw where Robinson came in fourth. Devor threw 55’3” while Streeter unleashed a season-best throw of 49’11” to rank 18th nationally. Bailey Jackson and Mackinsey Marquith continued their rivalry in the triple jump. Jackson’s leap of 34’7-3/4” was good for second place, just a half-inch out of first. Marquith took third at 33’6-1/2”. Marquith was second in the long jump with an effort of 17’2-1/2”, 3-1/2” out of first. A 9.26 in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles was a personal-best for Alexa Allen who advanced to the finals where she clocked a 9.44 to place second. The time was a tenth of a second behind the winner. Allen and Bowden were joined by Kenzie Payton and Kaci Lierman on the second-place 4x400 relay. The foursome ran a 4:12.85 to edge the third-place team by less than a second. Emily Tysma took third in the high jump. The sophomore was declared the third-place jumper after she and the runner up each cleared 5’4-1/4”. It was a career-best for Tori Beaty in the 3,000. The junior finished fourth in 11:03.63, three seconds out of a third-place finish. Andre Taylor clocked a personal-best and school record while placing fourth in the 60-meter dash. His 7.17 was one one-hundredth out of third. The Scots’ 4x400 relay team turned in the nation’s 10th-best time and took first place. Raimius Foulkes, Michel Massamba, Shane Reschke and Eric Brown clocked a meet-record 3:22.76 to win by 24-hundredths. Karston Anderson was the big winner for the men, taking first in both sand jumps. Anderson won the triple jump with a mark of 43’4-1/2”. His effort of 21’9-1/2” in the long jump was good for first by more than eight inches. James Wilson took third in the long jump with a mark of 21’1-1/4”. Matt Hassler’s 6’2-3/4” high jump placed him second, just 2” behind the winner. Brown also ran to a second-place finish in the 200 where he turned in a 22.75. Jake Nysather recorded a personal-best in the weight throw. His toss of 50’2-1/2” placed him second, ahead of teammate Andre Smith who took third. Smith won the shot put, throwing the sphere 47’10”. Foulkes and Green ran top four times in the 400 dash. Foulkes out-leaned his opponent at the finish with a 51.18 for second-place and a 51.49 earned Green fourth. In the 3,000, Jon Welty narrowly missed a top three finish.
