Monmouth led 47-45 at the half, but Grinnell outran the Scots 102-90 at Glennie Gym. The Scots took just two 3-pointers against the Pioneers and didn’t take their first trey until the final minutes. Monmouth pounded the ball inside for 62 points as six players posted between 12 and 14 points. The Scots went scoreless through the first four minutes of the game, but came on with a flurry as they battled from 13 points down with 12:26 left in the first half. A bucket inside by David Altman got Monmouth rolling on a 15-3 run over a five minute span to take their first lead of the game. Monmouth continued to put the heat on over the first seven minutes of the second half before the Pioneers erupted for a 10 point lead and held off the Scots to finish the game.
