MONMOUTH, Ill. – No team scores were kept, but that didn’t keep the Monmouth College men’s and women’s track teams from turning in stellar performances at their own Fighting Scot Invitational last Saturday. Had scores been kept, the Scots women would have gotten the lion’s share of the points in the throwing events where they swept the top four spots in the weight throw and shot put. Allison Devor won both events, throwing the weight 55’4-3/4” and the shot 43’7-1/4”. Raven Robinson edged out Amanda Streeter for second in the weight throw with a personal-best 49’4-1/2”, one inch farther than Streeter. Freshman Erin Maul placed fourth with a mark of 42’3-1/4”. Robinson also threw a career-best in the shot put to place second. Her throw of 42’6” bested Kayla Corzine by two inches. Streeter was fourth at 39’8-1/2”. Robinson and Corzine’s efforts rank them ninth and 10th nationally. Alexa Allen came up with a pair of wins on the track where she took the 60-meter hurdles in 9.38. Morgan Ryan clocked a 10.04 in the event for fourth. Allen also broke the tape in the 200 dash as the Scots placed three in the top four. Allen’s 27.28 won by more than a half second, Kaci Lierman was third in 28.12 and Kimarri Campbell took fourth with a time of 28.39. Campbell also took top honors in the 60 dash where she tied the school record in the prelims with an 8.19. Her 8.32 in the finals was nine-hundredths ahead of the runner up. The Scots took the top two spots in both sand jumps. Mackinsey Marquith won the long jump with a leap of 16’7-1/4”. Bailey Jackson was second at 16’4-1/2”. The pair traded places in the triple jump when Jackson soared a personal-best 36’2” for the win over Marquith’s second-place effort of 34’3”. Monmouth’s women also commanded the long sprints and distance events. Tori Beaty opened the meet with a win in the 5,000-meters clocking a career-best 19:10.86. Rachel Bowden outran the competition in the mile, turning in a 5:20.15. Kenzie Payton was the fastest in the 400, turning in a 1:02.86 and Kyra Kimber broke the tape in the 800 with a time of 2:36.68. Bowden and Brittney Frazier placed 2-3 in the 3,000. Bowden clocked an 11:02.99 and Frazier recorded a lifetime-best 11:11.34. The Scots also finished high in the vertical jumps. Emily Tysma cleared 5’5” – ranked eighth nationally – to win the high jump and Ryan cleared 10’ for a second place finish in the pole vault. Monmouth’s foursome of Campbell, Payton, Jackson and Allen teamed up for a win in the 4x200 relay. The squad won by nearly 15 seconds, breaking the tape in 1:48.34. Like the women, Monmouth’s men also had a banner day in the field events. Newcomer Michel Massamba led a 1-2-3 Scots finish in the triple jump. Massamba soared a personal-best 44’11-3/4”, just out-distancing Karston Anderson’s personal-best of 44’10-1/4”. Kevin Mengarelli took third with a mark of 42’11-1/2”. Monmouth also claimed three of the top four spots in the long jump where James Wilson’s career-best 22’7-3/4” was the top mark. Brad Hoffman placed third at 19’10-3/4” and Matt Hassler’s 19’9-1/2” took fourth. DeAndre Smith equaled his personal-best from a week ago in the shot put where he threw 50’2” for the win. Jake Nysather logged a pair of lifetime marks, finishing third in the shot with a mark of 45’5-3/4”. His PR of 49’2-1/4” in the weight throw earned him a fourth-place finish. It was a 1-2 finish in the 400 dash as Eric Brown’s 51.16 was just ahead of Shane Reschke’s 51.95. Kainte Green broke the tape in the 200 with a time of 22.84 while Anderson clocked a 23.53 to take fourth. Anderson also took fourth in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.98. The 4x4 team of Green, Garrett Daniel, Reschke and Massamba just missed a win in their relay. The quartet’s time of 3:24.95 was 33-hundredths off the pace, but ranks 11th nationally. The men’s distance runners also fared well. Jake Barr and Matt Gatlin placed 2-3 in the 5,000. Barr toured the track in 15:49.38 and Gatlin clocked a 16:09.94. Steve Andris improved from the previous week in the pole vault, clearing 13’7-1/4” to finish fourth.
