Release: Monmouth College Office of Sports Information MONMOUTH, Ill. — Monmouth College quarterback Alex Tanney’s trophy case is getting a little crowded after his latest preseason All-American award. Tanney (Normal, Ill./Lexington), who earlier this year was named the winner of the Melberger Trophy as the nation’s top Division III player, can add a D3football.com preseason All-American distinction to his resume. The website, dedicated to small school football, released its preseason team this week and named Tanney to the first team. The senior business major, a two-time Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Year, was named to the second team by D3football prior to last season. He led Division III with 3,856 passing yards during the 2009 campaign and surpassed 10,000 passing yards in his career. Tanney has also been named preseason All-American by Consensus Draft Services and the organizers of the D3 Football Senior Classic. The Scots won their second straight Midwest Conference title in 2009 while recording their second consecutive unbeaten regular season, climbing as high as No. 8 in the national polls last season. USA Today recently ranked Monmouth 11th in its preseason poll. |
