(Galesburg, IL) – Legislation that would remove certified paramedics from the lists of persons within the State qualified to draw blood for alcohol and drug testing is being sponsored by a Galesburg area State Representative. State Representative Don Moffitt of Gilson, says that the function of an EMT is to give medical attention as well as save lives, not to collect evidence in a DUI situation. House Bill 4583 provides that a qualified person certified, instead of trained, in venipuncture and acting under the direction of a licensed physician may withdraw blood for the purpose of determining the alcohol content therein.
