Local Schools are preparing for the next school year as they continue to wrestle with delayed state payments. United Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt says they could have a decrease in the state aid again for next year...
Monmouth-Rsoeville School Board President Lynn Shimmin says they are owed $600,000 in state payments...
The state also has an older stack of bills worth more than $6 billion. According to a Chicago Tribune article this month, Gov. Quinn plans to renew his push to pay down that stack by borrowing the money, a move he has long argued would bolster the economy. But Republicans, whose votes are needed to pass the proposal, have opposed more borrowing. Quinn is scheduled to unveil his budget proposal Feb. 22 as he starts his yearly process of negotiating a spending plan with the General Assembly.
