Galesburg/Monmouth Community Club - May-June

 

 

May 23rd

Storytime at the Warren County Library in Monmouth-The Jungle! On Thursday, May 23rd from 10:00am-11:00am and Book Talk with Louis Gould, author of Edith Kermit Roosevelt,from 6:30-8:00pm. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing.

 

May 24th

The American Red Cross will be accepting donations at their Galesburg location on Friday, May24th for victims of the Oklahoma tornado.

 

 

May 26th

Memorial Day Services for the Silent Home Cemetery Association will be held on Sunday, May 26th . The gathering will begin at noon at the Silent Home Cemetery. The Honor Guard and firing sqaud will be at 12:15 followed by the National Anthem at 12:20. The speaker is the Reverend Gabe Wanck of the Fairview Center United Methodist Church. If it rains the event will be moved to the Cameron Christian Church.

 

May 28th

The Cameron Fire Department will sponsor a Cameron Community blood drive from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28 at Cameron Christian Church, 547 Church Street, Cameron, IL. Appointments: To donate, please contact Dave Watson at 309-563-9886 or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org.

 

 

May 28th

The Village of Roseville along with the Western Illinois Regional Council is conducting a public input meeting on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. at the Roseville Community Center, 265 W. Penn Ave., Roseville. The purpose of this meeting is to gather public opinions on the impacts the U.S. Hwy 67 bypass has had on the Village of Roseville, specifically with respect to local economics, the environment and the overall quality of life. All Roseville residents, business owners, and interested parties are encouraged to attend and assist in providing input for this study, which is being funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT).

 

 

 

May 29th

Cafe in the Park! On Wednesday, May 29th from 11:00 AM- 1:00 pm, Cafe in the Park is brought to you by the Galesburg Business Association. Bring your co-workers, friends and family to Park Plaza every Wednesday to enjoy local food and entertainment. Food provided by Pizza House. Entertainment by Missy Vail, sponsored by Blick Art Materials.

 

May 31st

A Monmouth Community blood drive will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31 at OSF Holy Family Hospital Classroom, Monmouth, IL. Appointments: To donate, please contact MVRBC at 800-747-5401 ext. 1281 or visit www.bloodcenterimpact.org.

 

 

June 1st

The Roseville Community Center Annual Fund Raiser will be held Saturday, June 1st starting at 7:30am will the Ellen Becraft Tot Trot. There will be a 5K run/walk starting at 8am and a golf outing all day starting at 8 at the Swan Creek Golf Club in Avon. From 5-7pm, a dinner will be held for a free will donation followed by a live and silent auction at 7.

 

June 1st

56th Annual Henderson County 4-H BBQ June 1, 4:00-7:00 p.m. Henderson County Fairgrounds, Stronghurst, IL For a free will donation you get your choice of ½ a BBQ Chicken or Pork Chop, Potato Salad or Sterzings, Cole Slaw or Applesauce, Roll, Dessert, and Drink. Eat in or carry out. The 4-H BBQ’s proceeds support Henderson County 4-H members by providing resources, programs, clinics, and scholarships for 4-H activities. Support your local youth!

 

June 3rd

Midwest Bank of Western Illinois will hold a Family Day fundraising event on Saturday June 22nd in Monmouth for the Warren County Relay For Life. There will be a 5K run/walk, a kids race, cookout, petting zoo, bounce house and more. Register by June 3rd and be guaranteed a t-shirt. Registration forms are available at all Midwest Bank locations.

 

June 8th

There will be a fundraising event for the Southeast Iowa Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind on June 8th at 10am at the Great River Medical Center in Burlington, Iowa. People are being asked to collect money and join in that morning for a walk around the lake. Everyone that is not disabled is asked to wear blinders or high heels to bring awareness to the public about what so many people go through every day. Signup will start at 9am on the 8th.

 

June 9th

A recent Monmouth College alumnus, Alicia (Phillips) Pence '11 was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Within days she had neurosurgery and it was determined to be cancer. She has started radiation and chemotherapy. She still lives near Monmouth with her husband and toddler son. During her time at Monmouth College, Alicia started a social service agency in Henderson County to support undeserved families and children. There will be a benefit for her at Henderson County Fairgrounds in Stronghurst, on Sunday June 9th with a live and silent auctions to raise money for her medical expenses.

 

June 9th

Tompkins State Bank will host a golf outing for Relay For Life on Sunday, June 9th at the Swan Creek Golf Club in Avon. Registration and lunch begins at noon with a 1pm start time. 4 person teams for a 18 hole Superball. The cost is $50 per person which includes green fees, cart and food. There will be contests, door prizes and raffles. Call Amber at 309-342-8161 to sign up.

 

June 11th

The Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce and the Illinois Chamber of C commerce will hold a free Affordable Care Act Seminar on Tuesday, June 11th starting at 10am in the 1st Farm Credit Services' Conference Room at 700 East Jackson Avenue in Monmouth.

 

June 12th

Market Alley Music Days returns to Monmouth on Wednesday, June 12th from 11:30am to 1pm in Market Alley downtown Monmouth. The sponsor this week is Midwest Bank. The food sold by the Midwest Bank Relay For Life Team with the entertainment provided by Charlie Hayes.

 

June 12th- July 12th

Raffles tickets are being sold to help support the Warren County Relay for Life. Tickets are a dollar each or 6 for $5. Raflle includes a Relay for Life Fire Pit, 2 camp chairs, Embroidered bag, umbrella, smores uspplies, 2 roasting sticks, Bubba Keg, Firewood Bundle, a Todd Hamilton Golf Bag and many other miscellaneous items. Drawing will be announced at the Relay For Life event on July 12th.

 

June 13th

Galesburg on the Go: Affordable Care Act Presentation will be from 11:45am until 1:00pm at the Best Western Plus Prairie Inn, Laura Minzer, who currently serves as the Executive Director of the Illinois Chamber of Commerce's Healthcare Council, will give a presentation on "Deciphering Employer Obligations and Coverage Options under the Affordable Care Act" The presentation will cover the ACA's impact on employers and how they can prepare for the coming changes less than a year from now.

 

June 15th

The 9th Annual Hopeful Helpers Golf Outing will be held on Saturday. June 15th at Gibson Woods in Monmouth. It's the 7th annual in memory of Bob Almaguer and all proceeds go to Immaculate Conception School Athletic Department in his memory. Tee time is 1pm and the cost is $100 for a four person team that includes green fees and cart. Cash prizes will be awarded. There will be raffles, black jack and door prizes. There will also be a meal, drawings and prizes after the golf outing. Call Penny Mackey at 734-5476 or Vicki Jackson at 734-5654 to register your team.

 

June 22nd

First Annual Railroad Days Dinner will be held June 22nd in Galesburg. Tickets available now at the Galesburg Railroad Museum, Galesburg Visitors Bureau and the Galesburg Chamber of Commerce. Tickets are $25 each. The dinner is June 22nd at 6:30 pm in the Knox College Lincoln Room. James D. Portfield, author of the latest book, Dining by Rail, will be the main speaker at the dinner.
